About Us

Bridging the gap between design and craftsmanship.

Established in 1985, MW Design Workshop has been crafting custom installations and furniture in the Pacific Northwest for over 30 years. Our reputation is built on innovative designs, customer service, and mastery of multiple materials. We specialize in solving difficult design dilemmas and bridging the gap between architecture, engineering and craftsmanship. We work hand-in-hand with architects and designers, or use our own in-house design capabilities to create installations and pieces that are a reflection of our passion for craftsmanship and service.

While our reputation was built on our custom, free-standing wooden stairs, we have since grown to be much more than a stair shop.  Look through our portfolio for examples of our wide-range of projects.  From entry doors to 3D engraved window trim, to forged iron handrails and moving, mechanical installations.

We have a full-service metal fabrication studio and wood shop in house.  This dual capability allows us to flexibly adapt to varying design challenges, as well as reduce the complexity of projects needing more than one skill-set to accomplish.

We do not build disposable goods, but heirloom quality artifacts that will stand the test of time and someday become heirlooms for future generations.

Our Process

Our work begins with you, the client.  What you are looking for is not off the shelf, or out of a catalog.  You need something unique and special that will make your project more than just good enough, but amazing.  From our initial consultation and conversations we move into the design process, where we create true-to-life CAD drawings and models for approval before we ever start welding metal or cutting wood.  After we have final approval on drawings, materials, and finishes the project moves into the production shop where our team of experienced craftsmen work together in unison to bring the vision to life. We strive to use the highest quality materials in every project we undertake, and execute our work using tools and techniques benefiting those materials.
